Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina Jolie Voight (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California), is an American actress, director, and producer who is well-known for her sex appeal as well as her humanitarian work. The role she played in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was one of the roles she received in the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her growing up in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years, and was then accepted into Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama. She also performed in theater productions and modelled for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995) when Jolie was introduced to Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1997; divorced 1999). The film didn't find an audience, as did another series of films. Jolie, who played the role of governor's wife in Alabama, a segregationist, received much attention in 1997. In the following year, she received an award called the Golden Globe Award. In the HBO movie Gia Jolie was a model who suffered from drug addiction. She was awarded multiple honors, including a Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. Following her Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton, and in 2003 she was divorced. Jolie played the girlfriend of the carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Then she switched to the British accent and mastered street fighting and kickboxing to perform the roles of Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. In 2004 she portrayed the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander as well as starred alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a sci-fi thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films failed at the box office, however Jolie made a splash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She was a housewife who pretends to play an assassin. While making the film, she met Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
