Judd Apatow was the one who suggested that she change her hair's color to match Superbad (2007). The film was so well received that she decided to keep her hair. She convinced her parents to allow her to move to Hollywood at the age of 15 by presenting an PowerPoint presentation that was appropriately titled Project Hollywood. She began acting when she was 11 years old and was a part of Phoenix's Valley Youth Theatre. Here she appeared on 16 stages as well as performed in the comedy improv troupe of the theatre.
