Pointe Claire is a sleepy neighborhood on the island of Montreal called"the West Island. People aren't sure of the significance of the word and assume it's a distinct Island that lies west of Montreal. It is actually this part of Montreal is more than that. West Island includes the entire region from Lachine to the west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel, but while it's true that she was born there, her stay there was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa. Her first ambition was to dance, however, a rapid growth rate meant that she outgrew her dance partners. According to an article by The Toronto Star, she confessed, "In heels I am 6 feet 1 inches." Once I outgrew the male partners that I worked with, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting. In the case of Brugel, it was the guidance of her drama instructor at high school which led her to the path she was looking for. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition for the role of Anne for their school's annual production. Following a trial, she ended up as the leading woman on the show Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Award at York University led her to the Theatre Program and she graduated in 2000, with a bachelor's Fine Arts degree.
